MY PARENTS

Once upon a time...happily ever after, words at the beginning and ending of every fairy tale.  Real life begins with "once upon a time," and ends with "ever after."  Real life fills in fairy tale missing years with happiness, tears, struggles, and triumphs - substance.  "Once upon a time" is entered with innocent anticipation, dreams, and eager questions of "how" and "when?"  "Ever after" looks back on memories with fondness or regret and asks, "Where did the time go?"

Once upon a time, in 1952, a beautiful young woman met a handsome young man.  They lived "ever after."

(Dedicated to my parents with love, to forty-nine years of "ever after.")

Too Young
Nat King Cole

They try to tell us we're too young
Too young to really be in love
They say that love's a word
A word we've only heard
But can't begin to know the meaning of

And yet we're not too young to know
This love will last though years may go
And then some day they may recall
We were not too young at all

And yet we're not too young to know
This love will last though years may go
And then some day they may recall
We were not too young at all
